August 2011 Newsletter ~ Dan is Named Kapuna of the Year!

Congratulations to Club Member, Dan Kaopuiki who was named Kapuna of the Year at the Na Kapuna Festival in Burien, WA last month. Dan is an intergral and vital part of the Hawaiian Culture in the Pacific Northwest and a true ambassador of the Aloha Spirit in all his interactions. Our community would not be as thriving if not for his http://www.holoholonw.com/ updates on all entertainment opportunities both of island entertainers and those who entertain locally. Dan is the authority and the heartbeat of this community. We are blessed to have him! Way to go Dan!

Haunted Hotspots in Washington - King Kalakaua's ghost!

Worthy of checking it out....

The Equator (Schooner) = Marine View Drive & 10th Street The old ship is haunted by the sailors that worked on it when it was in use. Floating lights have appeared on the deck. This 81 foot schooner for the 1880s has been restored and turned into a museum. A scene was conducted on the vessel recently and 2 ghosts were discovered. They were those of Robert Louis Stevenson and King Kalakaua of Hawaii. In 1888, Stevenson used the boat for 6 months when he and his family took a cruise near the Pacific islands. One of the Stevenson's closet friends was King Kalakaua, who at one point was a guest on the schooner.
